About Course

This course is designed for Secondary 3 students who are progressing into more advanced mathematical concepts required at upper secondary levels. Topics covered include quadratic equations, inequalities, coordinate geometry, trigonometry, functions, and applications in real-world contexts.

Through structured video lessons, downloadable practice worksheets, and step-by-step solutions, this course strengthens analytical thinking, deepens conceptual understanding, and equips students for success in national exams like the O-Levels or N(A) Levels.

What Will You Learn?

  • Solve quadratic equations by factorisation, formula, and completing the square
  • Graph quadratic functions and understand their properties
  • Solve and graph linear and quadratic inequalities
  • Understand coordinate geometry and solve problems involving gradients and midpoints
  • Apply trigonometric ratios and rules (sine, cosine, tangent) in both 2D and 3D
  • Convert between different units and apply mensuration to real-life problems
  • Analyse real-world data and use statistical measures effectively
  • Develop strong logical reasoning and proof techniques

Course Content

Quadratic Equations and Graphs
Solve quadratic equations using factorisation, completing the square, and the quadratic formula; sketch and interpret quadratic graphs.

Linear Inequalities
Builds on linear inequalities from Sec 2, covering systems of inequalities in one and two variables, solution sets on number lines and graphs, and real-life problem applications.

Indices
Introduces and applies the laws of indices to simplify expressions, including zero and negative indices. Also includes solving equations involving indices and standard form notation.

Coordinate Geometry
Covers calculation of midpoint, distance between two points, and gradients. Students learn to derive the equation of a straight line and solve geometric problems using coordinate methods.

Functions and Graph
Students are introduced to the concept of functions, domain and range, and graphical representations of linear and quadratic functions. Emphasis is placed on plotting, interpreting, and using graphs to solve problems.

Congruency and Similarity
Explores the criteria for triangle congruency (SSS, SAS, ASA, RHS) and similarity (AA, SSS, SAS). Students apply these to solve geometric problems and prove properties of figures.

Further Trigonometry
Extends trigonometric knowledge to include trigonometric identities, applications involving non-right-angled triangles, and solving problems using the sine and cosine rules.

Applications of Trigonometry
Applies trigonometry to real-world contexts including 3D problems, bearings, and angles of elevation and depression. Students interpret and solve word problems using diagrams.

Mensuration – Arc Length, Sector Area, and 3D Solids
Calculate arc length and area of sectors; find surface area and volume of 3D solids such as cones, spheres, and pyramids.

Properties of Circles
Covers geometric properties related to circles including angles at the centre, angles in the same segment, cyclic quadrilaterals, perpendiculars from centre to chord, and tangents. Used to prove and solve angle problems in circle diagrams.
